Promo: Browns vs. Lions Discount Tickets
The folks in the promotion department were having a little fun with our promotion along with the Browns for discount tickets to the Browns vs. Lions game next Saturday, so the game isn't blacked out locally.
I have three questions assuming that they are unsold (which more than likely they will be sold) by next week:
Would WKYC still be required to produce the games eventhough they would not be able to air them live since the blackout would apply?
If WKYC would be able to air the games only on a delay basis, would the three affiliate markets in Youngstown, Columbus and Dayton be allowed to air them or not?
Would WKYC just buy the remaing tickets to prevent the buyout since it would cause them to lose money from the spots they already sold for the game? In the past ch 19 would buy the unsold tickets to prevent a blackout?
Even if the game is aired would you please answer these questions? Thank You
No if the game is blacked out, WKYC would not be required to produce the games. This is an NFL rule about the blackouts they are apparently enforcing this year in presason.
On the delay question.. It's very unlikely the games will be tape delayed. If we aren't producing them, then the other stations will have nothing to air, since they get them from us.
No, WKYC is not likely to buy the remaining tickets. There are too many tickets still available. However, other entities may do so - but it's very doubtful WKYC will.
Again, I do not speak for the station - so keep this in mind as you read the answers to your questions.
