In one of the most hotly contested campaign seasons in history, Cleveland and Ohio are playing a crucial role in the race for the White House. And WKYC has continued its commitment to covering the politicians and issues that are important to our region.
Only Channel 3 hosted and carried live coverage of the 3 biggest political events this month; The State of the City, the 10th District Congressional Democratic debate and the Democratic Debate between Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Viewers have responded by making Channel 3 their destination for election updates and analysis. The debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama was the highest rated program in Cleveland, outdistancing American Idol by over 40%. The audience stayed with Channel 3's post debate coverage and Channel 3 News at 11pm, making them the number one programs versus all competitive programming. Nationally, the Debate was the highest rated show in the entire history of MSNBC.
Tuesday March 4th was Ohio's chance to be heard by a nation. And recognizing the importance of the primary, viewers made WKYC Cleveland's choice for election results and analysis. Special primary coverage on Channel 3 topped coverage on other stations by a 2:1 margin.
"All year, all the candidates, all the issues that are important to Northeast Ohio will remain our priority," stated Brooke Spectorsky, President & General Manager. "No one brings you better political coverage than WKYC and the networks of NBC. Count on us to be your election headquarters."
