In the face of devastating natural disasters, communities often find strength in the compassion of strangers. That spirit of solidarity is exactly what WKYC and our parent company, TEGNA, are hoping to tap into as we rally support for Texans impacted by the catastrophic flash floods that began over the July 4th holiday.
Central Texas, particularly Kerrville and surrounding parts of the Hill Country near Austin, has been hit hard by sudden, deadly flooding. Torrential rains turned roads into rivers, overwhelmed homes and businesses, and left families displaced. First responders and rescue crews are still working around the clock to save lives, recover the missing, and begin the long road toward recovery. It’s a moment of crisis—and a call to action.
That’s why WKYC is proud to take part in the TEGNA Texas Flood Relief Fund, a national fundraising effort uniting TEGNA-owned television stations across the country. Our mission is simple but urgent: raise vital funds to help support local non-profits in Texas that are directly assisting flood survivors with food, shelter, supplies, and long-term recovery services. These organizations are on the frontlines, providing care and comfort to families whose lives were washed away in an instant.
Whether you're watching from here in Cleveland or anywhere across the country, this is an opportunity to make a real difference. Donations to the TEGNA Texas Flood Relief Fund are tax-deductible and 100% of the proceeds will go toward vetted, eligible non-profits working in the hardest-hit areas. Every dollar you give goes straight to helping Texans rebuild—not just their homes, but their hope.
The urgency of the situation cannot be overstated. This was no ordinary weather event. Swift-moving water tore through communities with little warning, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Many families escaped with only the clothes on their backs. The damage to property is extensive, and with emergency crews still in search and rescue mode, the full scope of the loss is not yet known. What we do know is this: our help is needed, and it’s needed now.
WKYC joins a nationwide network of TEGNA stations—including KHOU in Houston, WFAA in Dallas, and KVUE in Austin—working together to amplify this message of support. From Denver to Tampa, from Washington D.C. to San Diego, we’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder to lift up Texas in this time of need.
If you’ve ever wondered how you can help in moments like this—here’s your answer. Visit WKYC.com or click here to donate to the TEGNA Texas Flood Relief Fund. Your contribution, no matter the amount, can help rebuild lives and restore communities. Because in times of crisis, kindness is just as powerful as rescue boats and sandbags.
Let’s rise with Texas. Let’s show them Cleveland and all of Northeast Ohio cares.
