The Director's Cut Blog has learned the current analog station in Canton, WDLI Channel 17, will officially throw the switch to all digital on April 16th.
Owned by Trinity Broadcasting, WDLI's early transition will allow WKYC to continue preparations for our move to digital channel 17 by June 12th.
The filing was made recently by WDLI with the FCC and appears in the latests update of "Stations Intending to Terminate Analog Service Prior to June 12." The station was the only new one in the Cleveland, Akron, Canton DMA that will make the transition earlier than June 12th. WOAC switched on February 17th.
However, this extra time will allow us to do more testing and tweaking on our new channel prior to the actual transition date, once our new tower is constructed in Parma that will house both WKYC and WVIZ.

Yeah I saw that tidbit on the FCC database.
I have a couple of questions for you.
First, exactly what is the status of the new tower. The last update we had (back in January) indicated that weather was delaying the project. We have had a couple of decent days lately, so how far along are we with the project.
Second, assuming that the tower is finished between April 17 and June 12, how much notice is WKYC required to give before flipping the switch to RF 17? Will it be before the analog signal is shut off or will you guys wait until June 12?
Thanks.
Hi Derrick,
Not sure the status of the tower, honestly... We have to be close to starting on raising the tower, since we'll run out of time soon. We need 4 to 6 weeks to finish.
As to your other question, the FCC requires 30 days public notice from what I have read, but I really don't think the switch could occur before June 12th. (Though we could fire up the new transmitter on Channel 17 for testing). This latest March filing deadline for stations pretty much keeps us to June unless we would have petitioned to go earlier, which we are not - from what I have been told.
