News: Obama to sign bill on analog shutdown delay

WASHINGTON -- White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says President Barack Obama will sign a bill to give consumers more time to get ready for the switch from analog to digital television broadcasts. The switch under current law is set for Feb. 17.

The Senate earlier this week passed the bill to delay that until June, but it failed in the House under a procedure that required a two-thirds vote for passage.

The Senate passed the bill again Thursday night, and the House plans to take another run at it next week under regular procedures. That means a simple majority vote is required.

Gibbs said Obama will sign the bill because he wants more time to ensure that people don't lose their television signals.

What does this mean for WKYC-DT and the move to RF-17. Will there be some type of deal worked out between WKYC and WDLI regarding the channel 17 analog signal. The way I was hearing things, stations have the option of shutting off the analog signal on the 17th if they desire.

BTW what is the update on the new tower. I recently bought an outdoor antenna so I could get the HD signal for Super Bowl Sunday and I still cannot pick up the HD signal (I am in Akron BTW). The two signals from WKYC (and WVIZ-DT) are the only signals I cannot pick up.

This still remains up in the air, so to speak, at the moment.

It's very likely that if there is a delay, that WKYC will be forced to remain on digital channel 2 under the June 12th deadline, unless the station WDLI makes it move early...but we don't expect that. So you'll likely be stuck with a crappy WKYC Digital signal until the new date, unfortunately. We hate being on Channel 2.
